Abstract

This research aims to explore the concept of ethnomathematics in the learning of three-dimensional space by utilizing traditional Bugis-Makassar musical instruments, especially drums. Given students' difficulties in visualizing three-dimensional spaces and connecting them to the real world, this research seeks to present a more contextual and engaging learning approach. In this context, the drum not only functions as a musical instrument, but also as an object to understand geometric shapes and structures. The type of research conducted is a literature study and interviews, with a qualitative approach. The analysis focused on the physical form of the drum, such as the cylinder and its parts that are relevant to the material of building space. In addition, interviews with elders and experts on the history of the drum at the Regional Museum of Maros Regency were conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and mathematical meanings of this musical instrument. This research can contribute to integrating local culture into mathematics learning, as well as improving students' understanding of the concept of building space through a contextual and relevant ethnomathematics approach.
