Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of students to solve mathematical numeracy-based problems. In the 21st century, computational thinking skills are very important skills to develop so that they can be used as a reference in designing learning materials. This research aims to describe students' computational thinking abilities in solving numeration problems on the Pythagorean theorem material. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this research consisted of 25 students in class VIII E of SMPN 2 Indaralaya Selatan. The research instruments used were computational thinking ability tests and interviews. The research results showed that out of 25 students, 4 students had low computational thinking abilities, 16 students had moderate computational thinking abilities, and 5 students had high computational thinking abilities. Students with high computational thinking skills are able to fulfill all computational thinking indicators, namely decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction and algorithms. However, at the pattern and algorithm recognition stage there are still errors. Students with moderate computational thinking skills are able to fulfill the decomposition, abstraction and algorithm indicators, but there are still errors. Students with low computational thinking skills are able to fulfill the indicators of decomposition and algorithmic thinking, but there are still some errors. The dominant indicators that emerged were decomposition indicators with an average of 59.11, abstraction with an average of 53.33, pattern recognition with an average of 41.33, and algorithms with an average of 26.67.
