Abstract

In mathematics, problem-solving abilities represent one of the primary standards for cognitive processes. However, according to studies from TIMSS and PISA, Indonesian students' problem-solving capabilities remain relatively low. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) grounded in ethnomathematics serves as an educational approach where students are placed in real-world challenging situations, encouraging them to actively seek solutions and connect mathematical concepts to local culture and traditions. The aim of this research is to conduct a literature review on the effectiveness of implementing Problem Based Learning (PBL) rooted in ethnomathematics to enhance mathematical problem-solving skills among students. Using the method of SLR (Systematic Literature Review), data collection involved reviewing relevant articles published over the past decade regarding PBL models aimed at improving students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. The findings indicate that students participating in culturally relevant problem-based learning tend to be more active and effective in solving mathematical problems. These discoveries emphasize the importance of incorporating cultural aspects into educational practices to elevate the quality of mathematics instruction
