Abstract

Ideally, math education can help students develop their analytical, logical and critical thinking skills to solve problems related to everyday life. However, in reality, there are many students who do not actively participate in the learning process, resulting in less than ideal conceptual understanding and learning outcomes. One approach in overcoming the problem is the concept of problem-based learning (PBL). The aim of PBL is to make students more engaged, cooperative and attentive when solving real-life cases. This article focuses on how the implementation of PBL can increase students' active participation in math class. Based on literature research, findings show that PBL can increase students' engagement in various aspects of learning such as: discussion, investigation, and task completion, which ultimately have a positive impact.
