Abstract

This article examines applying the ethnomathematics-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model to improve students' literacy skills. Using the literature study method, this research analyzes various sources that discuss the effectiveness of the PBL model in the context of mathematics education and literacy. Literacy, which includes reading, writing, and understanding information, is an important skill that students must have in the current Society 5.0 era. We chose the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model because it encourages students to think critically and creatively and apply it to problems relevant to their daily lives. By incorporating ethnomathematics elements into Problem-Based Learning (PBL), students are more motivated and engaged in learning, ultimately positively impacting their literacy skills. Ethnomathematics, which integrates local culture into mathematics learning, is expected to make the material more contextual and interesting for students. The study results show that applying Problem-Based Learning and Ethnomathematics learning models has significant potential to improve reading and mathematical comprehension literacy skills.
